In fact, according to this thread , Portable WinCDEmu does it with Portable WinCDEmu as soon as I boot Windows next time (I’m using GNU/Linux right now).

Solved Changing default program for extension messes up the icon
Hi, Everytime I try and change the default program for an extension to something else, its icon gets messed up.
For example, I am using WinCDEmu ( WinCDEmu – A free CD/DVD emulator for Win32 and Win64 ), and want to mount an .mdf, but unfortunately, the…

It happens.
The file will take load of the file icon of the default program associated .

Good sw, and the list is still expanding. Not sure if it’s better than LiLi, byt still can do pretty good work. USB live boots are litle disappointing tho.

Just wonderful work, totally saves the day when a DVD image is not available or you need to get the system loaded FAST. Plus it’s greener for the environment to use a USB than create endless DVD’s that are obsolete in 6 months time.

Verdict
There you go, if you are a curious Windows user like myself and want to try other operating systems on your machine I think the easiest way to go is through UNetbootin. Create a bootable USB disk, reboot and install the new operating system, with or without giving up on the old one. Now please excuse me, I have to reboot and install Linux Mint 7. Stay tuned to find out how it went

UNetbootin allows users to install Linux or create bootable liveUSB drives without a CD. UNetbootin has built-in support for numerous distributions, including Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, PCLinuxOS, Linux Mint, ArchLinux, Debian, CentOS, Frugalware, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and Parted Magic, though many other distributions can also be installed via an existing ISO or floppy/hard disk image file. Version 240 adds support for additional distributions.
